When you do a Pilates exercise program, your program will include work along 4 lines. The 4 Lines are: Stretching & Flexibility work. Core strengthening & Postural Alignment. Outer muscle strength. Increased cardiovascular function through proper breathing technique. Each of the Lines of work are as important as the other. None of them should be neglected. Weakness, stiffness, pain, low energy, are all signs that you have an imbalance..
You may be strong, or fit enough to run on the beach, but without working on all the 4 lines, the chance of developing injuries becomes much higher. The aim in Pilates is regaining freedom of movement without pain or restrictions, greater stamina for all of life's activities, have a sustainable exercise program we can participate in well into our 80's.
Within the Pilates environment you will be working on all 4 lines of work on the body without letting any one of them become over developed to the neglect of the others. Pilates is a mindful, intelligent way to exercise.
